139th Infantry

1985.251 State Color Horstmann Brothers and Company v2p424
139th Infantry, Second State Color. Composed of men from Allegheny, Armstrong, Mercer, and Beaver counties, the 139th was organized in August 1862. Company I and three other companies were nicknamed the "Semple Infantry" in honor of Pittsburgh businessman William Semple. The regiment received the second state color in early February 1865 due to the first's tattered condition. The 139th was mustered out of service on June 21, 1865. Click here for more images
